by Donald Miller
I finally did it, I finished a book in a week, so it was the abridged audio version, its still a book and I “read” it in a week.
Donald Miller does a great job of giving words to the feelings that somethings just aren’t right with the morays we’ve been given in the church. He opens your eyes to a world of beautiful people that don’t care about your new easter suit, they want to know if they are important enough for you to love, care about, invest in, or simply listen too.
If the modern church / “christian” is ever going to relevant to a secular world we have to stop acting like anyone who doesn’t think like us has a disease. Stop fighting about politics and start helping people downtown. Stop hanging out with the “saints” and start doing life with the “sinners”
If you’ve ever left a church service of a “traditional” church and felt like if you repeated what you just heard in the “real world” you’d be thought a freak. Then read this book and it will tell you why. Christians have a bad rep in this world because we’ve been a huge part in alienating it.
Donald doesn’t preach at anyone, he relates life through stories of interesting characters and then leaves you to form your opinion.
Blue Like Jazz conveys love and logic, but mostly love.

Wow! sounds like a book I need to read.
I almost always find when I “Stop hanging out with the “saints” and start doing life with the “sinners”” the labels become much more interchangeable.
Reminds me of a song by The Choir, Kissers and Killers.
I liked this book a lot. I need to re-read it and many others.
Blue Like Jazz is one of my top 3 favorite books. I cherish that book very much. And I recommend it to several people.
p.s. I found you via Big is the New Small.
