Erwin McManus (of “The Barbarian Way”) says that you can judge your level of “christian” maturity by the amount of time between when God tells you to do something and when you get it done.
Well, tonight I sent the email. The email that invites the leaders of Oklahoma City mens groups to get together and combine efforts. It took a month to get my mind around it, two months to write and two months to rewrite and send it. But, right now it is on the way to our small group pastor then to be distributed to all our other local campuses.
So, Erwin? how long is 5 months on the maturity scale? I guess five months is good considering all the things I’ve left on the table over the years.
God has put you where you are because he needs a man with your talents and personality exactly where you are. What has God told you to do that you haven’t followed through on? Do you think other parts of you life may be on hold until it gets done?

I have wondered frequently as of late about why I did “get ‘er done” way back then. But, most of the time, I couldn’t have handled “it” then or I wouldn’t have explored it to the depths God was (is) asking.
Might be that God knew exactly how long it would take and His timing was to have the invite go out after a message on the “Wounded Warrior”. I know that message had a great impact on the men and women who heard it (and will have on many who didn’t) and it might be this is the exact time to ask. Does the invitation need to go out on the big screen before and after the experience? To invite more men to plug in?
Praise God you followed His lead. Can you post the same letter here?
Its kind of like the Peter stepping out of the boat story. I think he wants us to act when we get the message but more often than not I have to take the time to wrap my brain around it, decide if I like the idea or not, decide if others like the idea, then think about it for a while, and then when I’m sure I want to trust (step out of the boat closer to shallow water) then I follow through.
Sure, I’ll post it, here it is:
I wrote this to the men’s groups at lifechurch but am very interested in having men who may be in charge of or been reluctantly put in charge of the men’s group at their church, regardless of denomination.
Well said, congrats on sending the e-mail and I am looking forward to hearing the updates.
Maturity…
I need to be more mature or less deaf
