Interviewed by Craig Groschel, founder of http://lifechurch.tv
Tony has 7 kids (Craig has 6), he has written a book called The Mentor Leader
Your only job is to help your players play better. Leadership is about helping people get better.
I tried to develop relationships with the players to grow them. “… I think it is a biblical principle” “I was convicnced if the players believed in me that I would show them how to win.”
Craig “You were known for mentoring living a life of balance”
Dungy: Coach Nole said you can’t make football your life and we won so I knew that it could be done, a spiritual life is important so I made sure the guys got home. If the assistants were doing well with their family they’d be better for me so I would kick them out of the office. Don’t mistake hours for productivity. Don’t feel guilty going home at a decent hour.
Craig: How to find a mentor
Dungy: Leaders have to be available to mentor.
Find people you admire, if you see someone doing well ask them. Get mentored from a distance. Watch the lives of other leaders. “You can mentor someone from any level” The mentor needs to find out what you need and find out about your life.
- It can be an informal process without a curriculum
To Mentor: Don’t be afraid to offer yourself and let someone you know that you’re available.
Who is Christ to you?
The bible says what would it profit a man if he gain the world and loose his soul? If we win the Superbowl it won’t make a difference – our right relationship to the lord is the most important thing.
